To settle the debate, sport experts suggest gymnastics is one of the most challenging sports behind boxing, American football and ice hockey. Gymnastics is a scary sport and it has a high injury rate, there is no question about it. Gymnastics has one of the strictest scoring systems in the sports world, making it difficult to achieve a very high score. Gymnasts need to be in their best shape, building and maintaining core and upper body muscles. This is achieved through intense training routines and strict diets.

Indoor/outdoor rowing is the most physically demanding of all sports. You use both upper and lower body, pushing (with the legs) and pulling (with the arms) against a resistance. Hard work for the aerobic system and muscles. It works every major muscle group including legs, buttocks, shoulders and stomach. As a result, rowing burns 450 calories per hour.

Gymnastics can be dangerous. A gymnast could flip the wrong way and land on their face. Or they could fall off a high beam. As a result, gymnastics requires an incredible amount of bravery both during practice and at competitions – arguably a far greater amount than almost any other sport.
Gymnastics training is also a long-term investment, and it involves doing some of the hardest athletic work imaginable. Gymnastics tests people in a way that they are rarely tested otherwise. As a result, gymnasts should be celebrated for their ability to endure that level of training for long periods of time.
The final reason why gymnastics shouldn’t be looked down upon as a sport – indeed, why it’s harder than most sports – is because it requires absolute perfection in movement and execution. This is because gymnastics requires absolute perfection in both movement and execution – something which almost no other sport requires.

Motocross is by far one of the most intense and gruelling sports there are in the world today and it requires a great deal of physical and mental strength. Going for that long on a bike that weighs more than the rider themselves is quite a taxing event on a person. Throughout the course of a race, a rider will be elevated off of his seat for the large majority of the time. This means that there is a high priority on having strong leg muscles that possess an incredible amount of endurance. In a test of Supercross riders (a type of motocross racing that takes place indoors), it was found that the average heart rate of riders throughout a race were reaching 94 percent of their maximum heart rate.

If it is physical punishment, then hands down it will be a combat sport as you are getting constantly hit. However, if it is regarded as what requires the most skill it may not necessarily be a combat sport, of course to out-class Tyson Fury it is going to take some incredible skill, but for many fighters and even professionals, they have won many of their fights just by being fitter and stronger than their opponent. The most skillful sport would be a sport like golf that requires perfect accuracy and judgement of distance. To give an overall opinion to what is the hardest sport it will need to be broken down to certain factors as each sport is harder in different areas.
