The record-breaking Royals put together one hell of a squad in 2005/06, winning the Championship title, with 106 points - the most of any EFL side ever. Manager Steve Coppell led Reading to their first-ever top-flight campaign, after losing just one game out of the 46, and scoring 99 goals in total.

Reading's 106 points record - secured under Steve Coppell in the 2005/06 season - stands to this day. Only two clubs - Newcastle United and Leicester City - have come close in the near two decades since. Both clubs ended up four points short with 102 in the 2009/10 and 2013/14 campaigns respectively.

Doyle, signed in 2005 for £78,000, scored 19 goals in his debut campaign as Steve Coppell's side roared into the Premier League with a record-breaking 106 points. The record remains to this day, but the Foxes are currently on track to reach 109 if they continue at their current rate.
There's been a few over the years chasing that 106 points. We never get a mention even though we have it there on record. Reading in 2005/06 was just a freak year and that and that year, like every year, you hear people saying this is the hardest Championship season ever. It was a freak year of football and great times.
