Matches are 60 minutes of playing time (3 20 minute periods), but stoppages in play and two 18 minute intervals make the real time duration of the match in the two to two and a half hour range.

Ice hockey is played over 3 x 20 minute periods with an ice resurfacing between them. The clock stops for penalties too, so expect a full to take between 2 and 2 and a half hours.

An Ice Hockey game lasts for 60 minutes (3×20 minute periods). Everytime the referee blows their whistle to stop play (ie. when a goal is scored or a penalty committed) the clock stops. If the scores are level after 60 minutes, we play 5 minutes of sudden death overtime, and then if it’s still level we go to a penalty shoot out. Between each period is a 15 minute break to allow the ice to be resurfaced (an ideal time to get a hot drink!)

Each game consists of 3 x 20 minute periods, and there is a 15-minute break between the periods. When the referee stops play, the timekeeper in turn stops the clock. The clock counts down from 20:00 to 00:00 for each of the three periods of the game.

Ice hockey games are played over three periods, each 20 minutes long with two intervals. The total length of the game is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, including stoppages in play.
