Elite UK Hockey Salaries: What's the Pay Like?
Average salaries are believed to be in the range of £12,500 to £47,000 for players in the Elite League. There are other benefits however, mainly that the the league does not play excessive amounts of games, travel between teams for matches is short and many cities in the UK are desirable places to live.
Compared to the big leagues (NHL and KHL), the UK does not pay that well. In 2017, Omar Pacha explained that players in the Elite League earned approximately $17,000 to $65,000. This equates to roughly £12,500 to £47,000.
Given what the teams in the Elite league turnover financially and the costs of their overheads, these figures make sense. The price that the big stars and highest earning players make is different and relatively low in the UK, compared to others.

The average player wage in EIHL equates to around £34,000. This suggests that the highest salary for a player in the UK league only amounts to a tiny fraction of the biggest contract in the NHL – the top earners in history may have penned contracts of around £50,000 per year. The level of finances that clubs have to utilise for player recruitment is simply in totally different stratospheres between the NHL and the EIHL.

Salaries here are understandably lower and EIHL players will bank something in the region of £10–30K yearly. As well as being an English-speaking overspill for the saturated North American leagues, the attractions of the EIHL include passionate fans and the opportunity to travels.
