The Indian hockey team has defeated Great Britain in a nail-biting shootout to enter the semi-finals of the Paris Olympics. The Indian team played over 40 minutes with one man less after Amit Rohidas was red carded for a stick in a GB player William Calnan’s face. Almost immediately after losing the ace first rusher to the card, India took a 1-0 lead in the game. But the Great Britain team scored with half-time in sight to level at 1-1. The score stayed 1-1 till the end of the 60 minutes. For India, it was captain Harmanpreet Singh who scored from the penalty corner, his seventh goal at Paris 2024. India went on to win, 4-2 via penalty shootouts, but it wasn’t before they were put through a whole lot of adversity.

India’s hockey team has long been a powerhouse in the sport, boasting an unparalleled Olympic record with eight gold medals. Indian hockey team and Great Britain have have had healthy rivalry over the year. India have maintained a pretty respectable record against Great Britain, who have always been a strong force in hockey. The Great Britain side have ousted India for the majority of their matches, but India have been very strong in the Summer Olympics meetings in the past.
