Kirkcaldy's Ice Rink first opened on October 1, 1938. Fife Ice Arena, or simply ‘the rink’, is also for many some kind of home. It has literally the longest history and it has a distinct atmosphere that engages like no other. It was the original ‘new era’. Kirkcaldy in 1938 was part of a very different world - the 50 Objects project has isolated a moment in time when Kirkcaldy suddenly had an ice rink and became a hockey town. As a new season begins on Rosslyn Street, ‘Kirkcaldy’s Heritage in 50 Objects’ project is marking the 85th anniversary of the very first opening of the town’s ice rink on Saturday, October 1, 1938.
