When it initially opened for business in January 1966 Bradford Ice Arena, then known as the Silver Blades Ice Rink and owned by Mecca Leisure Limited, was reputed to be the finest ice rink in the world.
Back then it boasted twinkling chandeliers and a plush bar and restaurant and the opening gala featured performances by British skaters who had just returned from the World championships, including Sally Anne Stapleford, John Curry and ice dancers Bernard Ford and Diane Towler.
This year the Ice Arena celebrates its 50th anniversary, a milestone that will have evoked fond memories for the many who have taken to the ice there.

The rink is one of the oldest in the UK, opening in 1966.
It needs some updating, but the staff are friendly, and prices are lower than at many UK rinks.
