UK Hockey: Any Good?

Field hockey is very popular in the UK compared to other parts of the world. In England, field hockey dates back to the 1700s, but the first hockey club was formed in London in the 1840s. The Men’s England Hockey League was formed in 1974, while the Women’s England Hockey League was formed in 1989. The prospects of field hockey in the United Kingdom look good, especially because its structure runs deep across United Kingdom communities, schools, and other grassroots engagement levels, making it very desirable among children and young persons. Field hockey in a sport-loving environment like the United Kingdom will continue to witness significant growth that will spur people to continue playing field hockey.

Loughborough Hockey is synonymous with success on the world’s sporting stage. Over the years, many Loughborough students and alumni have played for their national team, securing in some cases, historical success. Part of the reason Loughborough has such a strong presence in the sport, is down to the incredible training environment offered to students here on campus. Our teams play at the top levels of league hockey, meaning players have incredible competitive opportunities to play as well. The games in 2016 provided a historical moment that will always remain a core memory for most, when the women’s team won gold for the first time in women’s hockey history.
