A Welsh Premiership rugby player has been banned for four years after the presence of a prohibited substance was discovered. UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) notified the player of the discovery, but he alleged that the substance was in his system due to a contaminated supplement. The player also disputed the four-year suspension, so the case was referred to the National Anti-Doping Panel who upheld the ban as no proof of a contaminated supplement could be found. The suspension began on a provisional basis in August 2023, and will expire in August 2027.

Welsh rugby union player Bevan Jay has been banned from sport for a period of four years following Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) for the Presence and Use of a Prohibited Substance. The NADP tribunal was unable to reduce the applicable period of Ineligibility prescribed in the rules and imposed a four-year ban from sport on Mr Jay. Mr Jay is entitled to credit for the time he spent provisionally suspended, so his ban is deemed to have commenced on 16 August 2023 (the date his provisional suspension started) and will expire on 15 August 2027.

Lydney RFC player Kurt Brown has been suspended from playing rugby for four years after tests showed positive use of steroids in a urine sample in February. The 29-year-old allegedly injected himself twice a week for at least three months, taking guidance from a YouTube video, with no medical supervision after receiving a recommendation from his friend at the gym. Mr. Brown claims he started taking the steroid nandrolone, a synthetic form of testosterone, in May 2019 after a friend at the gym recommended the brand Deca-Durabolin to aid recovery of his shoulder. The ban was activated from March 13, 2020, and will last until March 12, 2024.

Former Dragons captain Rynard Landman has been banned for three years after testing positive for a banned substance whilst playing for Newport RFC. UKAD subsequently charged Mr Landman with ADRVs for the Presence and Use of a Prohibited Substance. “Mr Landman admitted the ADRVs and the asserted period of Ineligibility (four years) within twenty days of the Charge Letter.
