Then, in the 1902-03 season, they achieved a remarkable double when they finished top of the league table and won the Challenge Cup, retaining the latter trophy the following year. The Challenge Cup final was moved to Wembley Stadium in 1929, with Halifax becoming one of the first to sample its magic when they beat York there in 1931. They were back in 1939, when Salford were vanquished. The Championship was won again in 1965, with another great period following in the 1980s, when the league was topped in 1985-86 and the Challenge Cup added at Wembley in 1987.

The Wire v Halifax trilogy of 1954 is the stuff of legend, a time when the substantial primrose and blue faithful were able to celebrate their club’s only Challenge Cup and Championship double. Mountford's men beat Halifax 8-4 in front of a world record 102,569 supporters, although historians generally consider there were thousands more than that in attendance and as many more again that did not get in. The match was a cracker but it was the occasion and the amazing pre-motorway scramble of the mass turnout which witnessed Warrington's fourth Challenge Cup success that stands out to this day.

In season 1902-03 they achieved the ‘double’ by winning the Challenge Cup and finishing top of Division One. They won the cup again the following season, and were the first ever Championship Play-off winners in season 1906-07. When the Challenge Cup Final was taken to Wembley in 1929, Halifax became one of the first teams to sample its special magic, beating York in the 1931 final. They have since been to Wembley six more times, winning in 1939 and 1987, with their last appearance being in 1988 when they lost to Wigan.
