Let the celebrations begin - Team Great Britain have finished Paris 2024 with 65 medals, beating their total from Tokyo by one. The total matches the team's medal haul from London 2012 and is the joint-third-highest for Team GB at a single Games behind Rio 2016 (67 medals) and London 1908 (146). But GB did get eight fewer golds than they did three years ago in Tokyo. In fact 14 golds was only good enough for seventh in the medal table, GB's lowest placing since Athens 2004.

Yes, Team GB finished the Paris Olympics with 65 total medals, one more than they took home from Tokyo in 2021. Great Britain’s team of athletes will still surely be pleased with their achievements during an amazing fortnight at the Games. There was another medal in weightlifting, as Emily Campbell also won bronze in the women’s +81kg category having previously claimed silver in Tokyo. British quartet James Guy, Tom Dean, Matt Richards and Duncan Scott took the first gold in the pool for Team GB, retaining their title from Tokyo in the 4x200m freestyle. Alex Yee produced a huge comeback to win the gold in the men's triathlon after a sensational sprint-finish that saw him overtake New Zealander Hayden Wilde's 14-second lead. Team GB won their first women's quadruple sculls gold in Paris as Lauren Henry, Hannah Scott, Lola Anderson and Georgie Brayshaw pipped the Dutch crew to the line by 0.15 seconds after trailing for most of the race. The women's track cycling sprint crew of Emma Finucane, Katy Marchant and Sophie Capewell won after a thrilling day of action at the velodrome, where the world record was broken an astonishing five times. In the end, the result was never in doubt as Hodgkinson sprinted home for an emotional gold, adding to the silver she won in Tokyo. After a 48-hour drought of gold medals, Eleanor Aldridge secured Team GB's first sailing gold medal of the Paris Olympics in the women's kite final. Team GB secured its 1,000th ever medal in sporting competition at the Olympic Games today as Ethan Hayter, Daniel Bigham, Charlie Tanfield and Ethan Vernon secured a silver medal in the cycling men’s team pursuit at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. I have been lucky enough to witness a number of Team GB medal moments and I hope there are many more to come in Paris over the coming days.

Team GB have concluded a strong Paris 2024 with 65 medals, one more than Great Britain achieved at the Tokyo Olympics, to finish sixth in the final medal table. Great Britain did fall short of their tally of 22 golds from the last Summer Games, winning 14, with a series of near misses in the pool and in the athletics programme capping their top of the podium potential and ultimately meaning a drop of two places in the overall table. Yet history was made as first medals were won in climbing and artistic swimming, showcasing the pan-sport competitiveness of the British squad, while Emma Finucane was an individual standout, winning three medals at the velodrome. Here is a day-by-day recap of all of Team GB’s medals in Paris.
