Great Britain has only ever won the Olympics once. That came all the way back in 1908, when the Games were held in London. The 1908 Olympics was relocated to London – which hosted for the first time – from Rome after Mount Vesuvius erupted in Italy, leaving 100 people dead and devastating the city of Naples. Team GB has had further success, finishing 3rd in the medals table at London 2012, and in second place in Rio in 2016.
