In 2012, London became the first city in the world to have staged the modern Olympic games three times. Never mind the 1948 or 1908 Games, the first recorded Olympic Games in Britain took place in 1612. In both 1908 and 1948 London stepped in to assist the International Olympic Committee when all other options were ruled out.
