A 1-0 loss to Germany in a 2002 World Cup qualifying match on 7 October 2000. Dietmar Hamann scored the last goal ever at the Old Wembley with a free kick from 30 yards in the 14th minute.
England manager Kevin Keegan resigned immediately after the game, reportedly after hearing boos from the Wembley crowd that were so loud they drowned out a fireworks show put on by the FA to say goodbye to the stadium.

Wembley was exclusively used for all of England’s home internationals for 49 years until its final match against Germany in 2000.
It was closed soon after and demolished in 2003 to make way for the new Wembley Stadium which opened in March 2007.

The 2000 FA Cup Final took place on 20 May 2000 and was the last to be played at the old Wembley Stadium. It was contested between Chelsea and Aston Villa. Chelsea secured victory with a strike mid-way through the second half from Roberto Di Matteo; his last goal for the club. It was Chelsea's second FA Cup success in four seasons and the third in the club's history.
