Frenkie de Jong is the highest paid player across the top five leagues with Barcelona reportedly paying the midfielder €37.5m per annum. De Jong’s Barcelona teammate Robert Lewandowski ranks second with the Polish international reportedly on €33.3m per annum. Kylian Mbappé completed his protracted move to Real Madrid this summer on a free transfer with the Champions League holders reportedly paying the French superstar a yearly salary of €31.2m. Harry Kane's salary is cited as €25m per annum. Kevin de Bruyne (€24.7m) and Erling Haaland (€23.2m) rank sixth and seventh. Dušan Vlahović (€22.2m) is the only Serie A player in the top ten.

Former Scotland international and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan was the highest-paid League One player in 2023. Per Salary Sport, Bannan was pocketing £21,000 per week, which is three grand more than any other player in the third tier. Experienced in the Championship and Premier League, it is no surprise Bannan was on such a sizeable wage.

Erling Haaland is in line to become the Premier League's top earner.
The goal-scoring machine has reportedly been offered a new deal at Man City that will make him the highest-paid player in the history of England's top flight.
And despite already being the league's second highest-paid player, earning £375,000-per-week, City have reportedly laid a record-breaking new offer on the table that will make him the Prem's top earner.
That HALF A MILLION pound a week contract would see him pull away from teammate Kevin De Bruyne, who is currently the Prem's best paid player with his £400,000-per-week deal.
Should Haaland sign the deal he will be one of the best-paid players in all of Europe and the standout earner in the Premier League.
The former RB Salzburg forward will be making over £150,000 more per week than the Prem's third and fourth highest earners - Mohamed Salah and Casemiro.
He would earn some £175,000 more every week than Raheem Sterling, who's £325,000-a-week wage - which is split between Arsenal and Chelsea - makes him the Prem's fifth top earner.
